Cryptogramma crispa is found growing in conjunction with other vascular plants as an open assembly on screes among which can be found patches of bryophytes, this is the Rodwell (ed.) (1992) U21 community. In Birks (1973) it occurs in the Luzula sylvatica-Vaccinium myrtillus Association.
