The second record on Skye was in 1966 by M McCallum Webster (Watsonia, 8: 302, (1971)) on scree on Coire Uaigneich (NG5321) in turf and limestone grike.
Dryopteris oreades is a localised high altitude fern found normally at altitudes above 450m other ferns that may be present are Blechnum spicant, Cryptogramma crispa or Gymnocarpium dryopteris. In Birks (1973) it occurs in the Luzula sylvatica-Vaccinium myrtillus Association.
