Synonyms: Dryopteris affinis subsp. cambrensis
I have not described the plant communities this species is associated with until I made a lot more observations, see D. affinis agg. for further details.
In his paper CRFJ describes D. cambrensis subsp. pseudocomplexa the holotype (CFRJ 12635) of which was collected in the woods in from gate, just south of Dunvegan Castle car-park on 9 September 1986. The results of a chemical analysis on a rhizome of this subspecies are reported in Ann. Bot. Fennici 33: 69-100 (1996) this showed the plant contained a relatively large quantity of filixic acid.
NOTE: Hybrids between Dryopteris cambrensis and D. filix-mas have been recorded on the Island, see D. x convoluta for details.
